Eternal Rest, grant to them, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen.
God of all consolation,
in your unending love and mercy for us,
you turn the darkness of death into the dawn of new life.
Show compassion to your people in sorrow.
Be our refuge and our strength to lift us
from the darkness of this grief
to peace and joy in your presence.
We ask this through Christ, our Lord.
Funerals are typically arranged with the assistance of a funeral home in conjunction with parish staff. To begin the process of planning a Funeral Mass, please contact our Liturgy Coordinator, Maureen Galloway (ext 2801).
Funerals may be celebrated on any weekday except for special liturgical days in the Church calendar (Holy Days of Obligation) and are normally celebrated at 10:00am with an optional hour of visitation in the church before the Mass. Many times, families wish to have a rosary or scripture service led by a deacon at the funeral home the evening before the funeral.
A meeting with the priest celebrating the funeral typically takes place a few days before the Mass itself. This meeting will be to go over details of the Mass (music, readings etc.).
The family will be able to choose the music and readings, including an Old Testament Reading, a New Testament Reading, and the Gospel Reading. For the list of readings from which you can choose, please reference the Funeral Guide.
We are happy to host a Funeral Luncheon in our parish hall after the Mass, dependent upon the availability of both the hall and our luncheon volunteers. The cost for a luncheon is $3 per person payable to St. Thomas Parish.
