Finance Council Members
John Carriere, Chair
John has been a parishioner since 1978. He and his wife Sara lived in Ann Arbor since 1975 and have three adult children. John is a member of the Men’s Group and the Neocatechumenal Community at St Thomas . He is currently serving as Chairperson of the Faithful to Our Heritage debt reduction Campaign. This 5-year campaign is ending October 2015 and has successfully eradicated the $2.4M debt the parish had in 2010.
Ken Winters is a Structural Engineer, working for Robert Darvas Associates PC, in Ann Arbor, in his 45th year with the company, after serving 3 years in the U.S. Army. He graduated from the University of Michigan, 1966 Bachelor of Architecture and 1967 Master of Architecture. He has been a parish member since 1974, and assisting the St. Thomas Business Manager and Maintenance Staff since 1980. Ken’s Korean wife of 41 years passed-on in 2012, and he now spends a week or two sever times a year, with his son’s family and 2 grandsons, in Las Vegas. (No, not those parts of town). This is his 4th term with the Finance Council, along with 3 terms with Construction and Facilities Committees.
Mike McClelland became a parishioner of St. Thomas the Apostle Church while he was an undergraduate business student at the University of Michigan in the 1980s. He earned an MBA from the University of Chicago and has over 25 years of experience in banking, management consulting, and corporate strategy. In addition to ongoing consulting work, Mike teaches as an adjunct faculty member at the Catholic University of America’s School of Business and Economics in Washington, DC. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees at Fr. Gabriel Richard High School in Ann Arbor. Mike and his wife Karen are the happy parents of six children.
Michael serves St. Thomas regularly as Lector and Eucharistic Minister. He has served as Chair of the Parish Council, and also as a Catechist. Michael obtained his B.A. in Engineering Economics and his B.S. in Engineering from Brown University and his M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan. He and his wife, Nancy, have been parishioners of St. Thomas for 35 years, having been married by Msgr. Robert Lunsford in June of 1980. They currently live in Dexter. They continue to experience the Lord’s blessing by their belonging to the St. Thomas the Apostle parish community.
Serving on the Finance Council since 2015, Joe also serves the parish as an EMHC. He has worked for the University of Michigan since 2008, and prior to that for Borders Group, Inc. Joe earned a B.A. In Economics, a B.B.A., and an M.B.A. from the University of Michigan’s Dearborn campus. Along with his wife, Jen, Joe joined St. Thomas in 2009. Joe & Jen live in Ann Arbor with their children; and at least one of them can often be seen running around and climbing on things after mass. Occasionally the children also do this.
John and his wife Julia have been parishioners of St Thomas the Apostle since 1996. Their daughter attended St Thomas and Father Gabriel Richard High School. John has been on the Finance Commission since 2008 and is also an active member of Knights of Columbus Council 587. John has a business degree from Marquette University and a law degree from the Detroit College of Law. John is self-employed as a family law attorney for over 25 years. His office is downtown Ann Arbor.
Nisha and her husband Tony have been parishoners of St. Thomas since 2000. Their sons attended St. Thomas School. Nisha has served on the finance council since 2014. She is a dentist-scientist and has an interest in finance.
