Religious Education for Families & Adults

Greetings in Christ!

I am excited about the opportunity to serve you and your families with religious education and faith formation, and for all of us to become more intentional disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ.  This year, we are continuing with our two programs for children: 1.) Catechesis of the Good Shepherd classes for pre-kinder annd kindergarten age; 2) Spirit of Truth religious education for children grades 1st – 8th.  The 8th graders will be a part of our Spirit of Truth catechesis in which we will incorporate their Confirmation Preparation and reception of the Sacrament. On Sunday, September 22, we invite both you and your children to join us in the parish hall after the 9:00am Mass to kick off the year!

Every Sunday, our classes for children will run from 10:15am -11:15am.  This is an approximate start time and depends upon when the 9:00am Mass ends each week.

Here is some information about these classes which we hope will enliven your faith, draw you into deeper relationship with the Lord, and inform minds and hearts to live in the truth and love of God:

I. Catechesis of the Good Shepherd for preschoolers and kindergarten – is a engaging program rooted in the Bible, the liturgy of the church, and most notably the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

Young children have a natural personal awareness of God, and so the lessons are designed to expose children to meditation, mystery, joy, awe, wonder, and the peacefulness of knowing God and the gift of His only Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.  The classroom called The Atrium contains simple developmentally appropriate yet beautiful materials to help children absorb the most essential proclamations of the Christian faith. The Biblical and liturgical themes selected resonate with the inmost needs of the children.

II. Spirit of Truth Catechesis for 1st through 8th graders (2nd and 8th graders will be focused on First Communion and Confirmation Preparation.  Spirit of Truth is designed to provide everything you need to immerse children in the fullness of the Catholic Faith.  The goal of religious education is to provide for an encounter with Jesus.  The vision of Spirit of Truth is to present the lessons as not simply a set of facts to be memorized (although memorization is very important) but rather to connect our children and us as parents with the Faith and lead them and all of us to understand why and how a relationship with Jesus Christ and our Faith matters in their (and our) day to day lives.  I am excited that seven teachers have returned from last year and they are being joined by 10 more volunteer teachers, all of whom are excited to pass on their Faith and witness to their love for Christ.  It is going to be an exciting year!

III. First Communion Prep for 2nd graders – is part of the Spirit of Truth program above.   The additional dates and times will be provided at the kick off meeting on Sunday, September 22. (if you have a child that is older than 2nd grade who has not made their First Communion, please contact me).

IV. Confirmation for 8th graders – is part of the Spirit of Truth program above.  The additional dates and times will be provided at the kick off meeting on Sunday, September 22.  (If you have a child that is older than 8th grade who has not made their Confirmation, please contact me).

Please join us as we strive to Enter Through the Gate of Heaven, who is Christ our Lord!
