Greetings in Christ!

I am excited about the opportunity to serve you and your families with religious education and faith formation for all of us to become more intentional disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ.  This year Domestic Church Catechesis will have three pieces: 1)  Catechesis of the Good Shepherd classes for pre-kinder annd kindergarten age; 2) Spirit of Truth religious education for children grades 1st – 7th and 3) adult religious education.  On Sunday Oct. 21st we will gather both you and your children in the Parish Hall at 10:15 a.m. to kick off the year.

Every Sunday our classes for children will run from 10:15 a.m. -11:15 a.m and twice a month beginning November 4 for parents and adults.

Here is some information about these classes which we hope will enliven your faith, draw you into deeper relationship with the Lord, and inform minds and hearts to live in the truth and love of God:

I. Catechesis of the Good Shepherd for preschoolers and kindergarten – is a engaging program rooted in the Bible, the liturgy of the church, and most notably the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

Young children have a natural personal awareness of God, and so the lessons are designed to expose children to meditation, mystery, joy, awe, wonder, and the peacefulness of knowing God and the gift of His only Son Jesus Christ our Lord.  The classroom called The Atrium contains simple developmentally appropriate yet beautiful materials to help children absorb the most essential proclamations of the Christian faith. The Biblical and liturgical themes selected resonate with the inmost needs of the children.     Register Here

II. Spirit of Truth Catechesis for 1st through 7th graders (8th graders have a program dedicated to Confirmation Preparation which Fr. Tony Smela and Ms. Helena Heffernan are leading).

Spirit of Truth is designed to provide everything you need to immerse children in the fullness of the Catholic Faith.  The goal of religious education is to provide for an encounter with Jesus.  The vision of Spirit of Truth is to present the lessons as not simply a set of facts to be memorized (although memorization is very important) but rather to connect our children and us as parents with the Faith and lead them and all of us to understand why and how a relationship with Jesus Christ and our Faith matters in their (and our) day to day lives.  I am excited that five teachers have returned from last year and they are being joined by 10 more volunteer teachers, all of whom are excited to pass on their Faith and witness to their love for Christ.  It is going to be an exciting year!      Register Here

III. First Communion Prep for 2nd graders – is part of the Spirit of Truth program above.   The additional dates and times will be provided at the kick off meeting on Sunday Oct. 21. (if you have a child that is older than 2nd grade who has not made their First Communion, please contact me).     Register Here for First Communion Prep

IV. Adult Religious Education will be a series of topics based on the feedback I received on the survey.  The calendar of topics will be finalized and be available to you at our kick off meeting on Sunday Oct. 21.  Classes are twice a month beginning November 4 also at 10:15 a.m.  This class will be for anyone in the parish (kids or no kids), to learn about certain doctrines of the faith and how to live those out and pass them on to others.  For those with children, the teachers and I will be making available activities and other resources all tied to the liturgical season and to what your children are learning in their Spirit of Truth or Catechesis of the Good Shepherd classrooms.    Register Here

Please join us as we strive to Enter Through the Gate of Heaven, who is Christ our Lord!
